The building located at N103 Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue, the former hotel “Wetzel” and now a cultural heritage monument, is also one of the most valuable buildings on Agmashenebeli Avenue. It is designed by the famous German architect Leopold Bilfeld.
The three-story building with mansard, richly decorated with elements of Baroque architecture, was considered one of the best hotels in Tbilisi in the early 20th century. Its main “pearl” was a distinguished theater, where, in addition to performances, various cultural events were held. Now the building is burnt and its former look is covered by a puppet theater, which turned out to be devastating for Bilfeld’s architecture. Nowadays the building is in a deplorable condition and needs urgent rehabilitation. In 2011-2012 JSC “Real Invest” carried out strengthening works of a part of the building. Surviving the endangered building, giving it a function and activation again is vital not only for the building itself, but also for preserving the cultural heritage of the city. Our company is implementing this highly responsible project, as a result of which the authenticity and unique style of the building will be fully preserved.
Here we present a new draft design.
